Rupert Murdoch, a Living Legend
By now everyone’s heard the news that the Bancroft family has agreed to the $5 Billion bid by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. for Dow Jones. Over the last several months, the deal has sparked tremendous debate about Dow’s independence, its family legacy, the future of The Wall Street Journal and many other controversies. Now that the deal looks to be complete, the controversy and opinions continue.
This morning’s Wall Street Journal chronicled a decade long effort by Rupert Murdoch to buying the firm and the delicate balance he played with the many family members, board members, institutional shareholders and countless legal and financial advisors to every side. Personally I think this deal is good for The Wall Street Journal and I expect to continue my subscription. Whether you think it is good or bad, you must admire the incredible persuasive ability, patience and tenacity of Rupert Murdoch to realize his vision. He is a living legend.
Good to hear your perspective on Murdoch and WSJ. Though not a subscriber, I probably buy 2-3 copies a week, since its content blows the local Seattle “newspapers” out of the water.
I listened to a lot of BBC commentators regarding the Murdoch purchase, and one guy had a very good point. The WSJ is going to get some badly needed editing. We can expect to see more precision in language, and some shortening of pieces. I’ve had a number of experiences with lengthy WSJ articles whose headline and opening paragraphs were intriguing, but half-way into the article, I would zone out in boredom. A good editor will help remedy this problem, and will help WSJ stand out over major competitors like the New York Times.
Fox News, Fox News affiliates, News Corp and the Murdoch employees, friends and family are so pro-conservative Republican, it’s absolutey tainted news and biased reporting. It’s sickening, sickening, sickening! Boycott, boycott, boycott!
You may enjoy my current post about Rupert Murdoch. When I found the information, it was eye opening.
