Mass Market Video Editing (Cont.)
In a previous post, I discussed the idea of a mass market video editing service and likened it to what some firms have done to take a fragmented industry and consolidate it into a global brand, like logoworks.com and 1800gotjunk.com. While I still think this idea has merit, advancements in technology may make the service less useful. If there was something so simple even a caveman could use it, people may pay less for the service.
In further researching the idea, some companies are doing a decent job of positioning and pricing the service. http://www.pictureperfectslideshows.com/ for example, does a nice job of showing you very closely what your end product will look like and their pricing seems somewhat reasonable. More importantly, my research discovered some notable examples of “so simple a caveman can do it”, specifically a product company that was just bought by Yahoo! called http://jumpcut.com. Their product is fantastic…I think it’s perhaps the best video mashup on the web and TechCrunch agrees with me.
Rumors say the company was bought for $10 million, only six months after their first launch. Try it out and let me know how you like it.
